The home is located in the popular “Eatonville” area, a family oriented neighbourhoold that is home to people of a wide mix of incomes and cultural backgrounds. The Bloor Street shopping district west of Kipling Avenue is a small neighbourhood retail corridor that includes strip plazas, food markets, restaurants, and independent owner-operated stores. The Westmall Bloor Plaza is further west on Bloor Street at the West Mall. This community shopping plaza features a mix of shops including a florist, a hairstylist, convenience stores, a dry cleaner, a bank, professional offices and a fish & chips restaurant. Dundas Street has many new car dealerships, restaurants, and home improvement stores. There are two major malls, Cloverdale Mall, an indoor mall with over one hundred retailers, and Honeydale Mall, an outdoor mall, with a department store, and about a dozen smaller retailers. Cloverdale Mall hosts many special events throughout the year, including a craft show, a home show, antique shows, a seniors show, and sidewalk sales.

The Neilson Park Creative Centre is the home of the Etobicoke Art Group, the Humber Valley Art Club, the Heritage Rugcrafters of Etobicoke, the Etobicoke Quilters Guild, and the Etobicoke Handweavers and Spinner Guild. Events held at the centre include gallery exhibits, art festivals, and craft sales. One of Eatonville’s original families, the Shaver Family, once occupied Applewood, a historic house which is now a museum and community reception hall. The Eatonville Public Library offers a baby time program and a preschool storytime. For the adults, there is a Tea and Books program where library staff lead an informal chat about books and authors. The West and East Mall parks, Wedgewood Park and Cloverdale Park each contain tennis courts, a baseball diamond, and a children’s playground. West Mall Park also has an artifical ice rink and an outdoor swimming pool.

This area is well serviced by public transit, with the Kipling subway station nearby, and bus services on Bloor and Dundas Streets, The West Mall, The East Mall, and Burnhamthorpe Road. Kipling station serves both TTC and GO transit commuters. Motorists are just minutes from Highway 427, which connects to Highway 401 and the Queen Elizabeth Way. The Pearson International Airport is a ten-minute drive of this neighbourhood, and downtown Toronto is only about 20 minutes during normal traffic, a bit longer during rush hour.
